“Now let us play hide and seek …
[so that it would not be difficult to find you
… [or it will] be useless for anyone to seek you.
A woman may veil her face with a smile.”
Gibran, Sand and Foam
How vestments control what is invisible
nearly every good woman knows
(since she thought about it a lot,
that is to say, pretty much always)
and she may also tell—or not—
and do so with a smile or leave it,
leave it all with a tell-tale smile,
yet prudent enough not to spill
the beans about that old black
ceremonial magic—that which,
being its main prey, all the good
men above all are never to find
(and that’s why they call them
good—just like those Elohim).
