“So, What Is It That the Greeks Did Have and I Seem to Neglect?”

Clytie, the nymph,

inconsolably nude

for nine long days

became a sunflower

that mimes the sun

while being glutted

with dark oily seeds.

Even now poets still

would go and mine

sublime geometries

of the ancients Greeks

for beauty that coasts

through time’s bitter grip

like a soul that’s blessed.
