“Ego, the Vulgar God.”
Julius Evola, The Hermetic Tradition,
Chapter XIX, Philosophical Incest
Saturn, the Inverted God, hides in Italy.
Ibid., Chapter X, Saturn: Inverted Gold
Ordinary walking consciousness, they say,
is a vulgar Moon looking to a vulgar Sun.
And, in that world, lead is gold, and death
is life but the Book of Life and its songs
are the catalogues and laments of the dead
with plucked-out hearts and souls shipwrecked,
sunk, choked, and swamped in reversed knowing,
passing in vain croaking frogs’ and ravens’ omens,
never hearing in the vociferance a daimon or a Muse.
And, so, being turned into worshipers of their bonds
to Justice and Beauty blind, the condemned and dead
must die, having tasted extra much but a trite of truth
while Urania stays and hides behind Orphic Eurydice.
